This study examined the relationships between self-esteem, locus of control, and authentic leadership among veterinarians in the United States above and beyond the effects of gender, owner's equity, practice type, employment type, tenure, age, ethnicity, and practice management continuing education. Data for this research were collected from the Educational Concepts, LLC's database of veterinarians who subscribe to Educational Concepts' veterinary peer-reviewed journals, Clinician's Brief and Veterinary Team Brief. A total of 10,000 surveys were electronically distributed by Educational Concepts to veterinarian's email addresses with no other identifiers of the participants. A total of 562 veterinarians participated in this study. In addition to a demographic survey, the participants were sent three instruments. Self-esteem was measured by the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), locus of control was measured by the Internal Control Index (ICI), and authentic leadership was measured by the Authentic Leadership Questionnaire (ALQ). Statistical analysis for this study included regression analysis, Pearson product-moment correlation coefficients, t-test's, ANOVAs, and post hoc Scheffe tests. The results of these analyses indicated that self-esteem, locus of control, and authentic leadership were interrelated with self-esteem and internal locus of control being significant predictors of the four scales of authentic leadership. Keywords: Veterinarian, Leadership, Authentic Leadership, Self-Esteem, Locus of Control.
