Thesis (M.A.)--Pacifica Graduate Institute, 2016.
Through the imagination, one can tap into something greater than oneself. In this modern virtual age, Western culture is addicted to doing rather than being; active doing is connected with the masculine principle. Embracing the feminine through creativity can help to balance the striving for perfection that is valued so highly in our culture. The experiencing of music, the act of play, and the processing of dreams engages the imagination and can help to support the individuation process. As part of a heuristic methodology, this thesis utilizes the research of depth psychologists and experts in the fields of music, play, art, dream work, and neuropsychology. The author's personal reflections further demonstrate the positive effects of these modalities, the importance of reconnection with the feminine, and the relevance of the imagination in psychotherapy and individuation.
