This study examined four kindergarten classes that join in a nine week music instruction program that required students to participate in musical strategies 30 minutes a day five days per week. To collect pre- and posttest data, two groups were in the study: one experimental group and one control group. The primary focus of the study was to determine if participation in the music instruction strategy implementation would improve mathematical achievement in kindergarten students' math scores. The purpose was to compare pre- and posttest scores on the Kindergarten Math Assessment (Richland School District 2, 2014). The methodology was a quasi-experimental design. This research design was used to determine if incorporating music instruction as a strategy would indeed increase mathematical achievement on the Kindergarten Math Assessment (Richland School District 2, 2014). The quantitative research questions were: (a) Are there differences between pretest and posttest scores of students who received music instruction to increase math achievement and those who did not receive music instruction? (b) What effect does socioeconomic status have on math achievement in kindergarten students? Results discovered that students' mathematical achievement did improve as a result of participating in the nine week music instruction implementation program. Also revealed in the study was that students' socioeconomic status had no impact on their academic achievement. The use of music instruction as a strategy to improve mathematical achievement with kindergarten students would be beneficial to educational leaders.
