Thesis (M.F.A.)--Mills College, 2015.
iteration is an artist book/installation comprised of seven vertical hanging scrolls thirteen inches wide by six to nine feet tall. The scrolls were written and photographed during a three year period of walking in numerous redwood groves up and down the coast of California and Southern Oregon. All at once, sometimes in agreement, sometimes in dischord, voices appear on the scrolls along with grids of images from inside the forest canopy. These voices sing, oscillate, whimper, whisper, proclaim, and investigate: the many fluid meanings of perspective, the redwoods as an ancient survivalist species, incomprehensible bigness, survival as action, and the tracking of universal patterns embedded in us and our actions.
