Thesis (Ph.D.)--Capella University, 2015.
The sudden traumatic loss of a sibling can be the most devastating news anyone can hear in relation to their loved ones. The death of a sibling through murder can be a very traumatic experience for the surviving siblings. This study looked at 12 participants from the Caribbean island of Antigua living in New York and Florida who have lost a sibling living in Antigua to murder. The experiences described in this study provide information on how siblings grieve and mourn the loss of their siblings. Previous researchers have argued that the sudden death of a sibling can be a traumatic experience for the surviving siblings; however, very little research has been done on such loss. This study used qualitative phenomenology research method to get a better description and understanding of these siblings' bereavement and grief.
