Thesis (M.S.)--Utica College, 2015.
The Internet has become an omnipresent tool of modern life. Like any other tool, evil men can use the Internet for evil purposes, including cyberbullying, sexual exploitation; use of drugs, excessive drinking; political self-radicalization; gangs; and identity theft. Young children are especially vulnerable. Internet threats are international in scope. The research in this paper has concentrated on actions taken by the Dutch government, schools, and non-government organizations to safeguard Dutch youth from Internet threats. These actions encompass efforts from national legislation to web sites. The most extensive efforts have targeted areas such cyberbullying and sexual exploitation, with only limited efforts directed against human trafficking, self-radicalization and gangs. The major deficiency of these efforts has been the inadequate publicity of the support options that exist.
