Thesis (Ph.D.)--Capella University, 2015.
This qualitative inquiry study examined the generational differences experienced by 45 ministry leaders from 45 nondenominational churches (one leader per church) of a Midwest metropolitan area. The churches were located in city and suburban areas. The differences revealed were significant and were found to have a negative impact on the leaders' perceptions of their fellow leaders from different generations, and on their effectiveness as leaders. Findings revealed that despite these differences the leaders were mostly engaged and committed to work together and to learn from one another. The leadership styles of servant, transformational, and charismatic, were among those most prominent among the leaders. An important finding in this study was that the millennial generation leaders' use of social media is ubiquitous and it appears to be having a significant impact on the nondenominational church's approach to community outreach and on its institutional identity.
