Thesis (M.S.)--Stephen F. Austin State University, 2015.

For my master's thesis, I wrote a creative, novel length work entitled In the Glow of the Worn Out Sun. It could be considered a young adult novel in the same vein as John Green, but I also hope it hits at an older audience because of the bildungsroman elements that could be reflective of Jonathan Lethem or Michael Chabon. The novel is set in Shepheard's Pass, Texas, and the narrative is told through the point of view of Lance Castor, the protagonist, who is still reeling from his sister's, Leslie, death. He has just graduated from high school and is tentative about moving away to college because of what he saw happen to Leslie---drugs, wrong guys, death. For a summer job, he gets a job at the local fitness center, which is where he meets his summer catalyst, Katy Tatum, who resembles Leslie in her actions and personality. Because of this resemblance, Lance has an overwhelming urge of meet and form a relationship with her, so that he may be able to rescue her.
