This study aimed to examine whether intermedia agenda setting takes place between newspapers and microblogs, who has the initiatives of the two media, the nature of the relationships, and the time span needed to generate linkages between two media agendas. Data from four Chinese newspapers and two microblogs are content analyzed to test for intermedia agenda-setting relationships. The MH370 event was used as a case study. This study worked within the traditional methodology of time series to conduct intermedia agenda-setting analysis. No significant correlation was found between the newspapers' and microblogs' agendas, but whether intermedia agenda-setting effects take place depends on the type of the news stories. Overall, the newspapers need more time to granger causes microblogs' agendas.
