Thesis (M.S.)--D'Youville College, 2014.
Background: In 2010 there were approximately 250,000 senior citizens living in Western New York. Medication adherence among senior citizens in the United States is approximately 50%. Medication Therapy Management (MTM) models, which are programs that aim to increase medication adherence, are available to optimize therapeutic outcomes for seniors. Objective: The objective of this study was to examine the perceived effectiveness of different MTM programs and the barriers that prevent their use. Methods: This is a secondary analysis using data from questionnaires distributed to healthcare professionals throughout Western New York surveying the perceived effectiveness of six MTM models and their potential barriers. Implications: The most effective MTM models may allow healthcare professionals to treat patients effectively in order to achieve maximum therapeutic outcomes.
