Over the centuries people who have engaged in same-sex behaviors have been persecuted or rejected and this social denigration has been inculcated by the adult homosexual male and affects how he interacts with the world around him. The author looks at how this inculcation may affect the adult male homosexual's maturity. This study examines the possible relationship between internalized homophobia within the adult homosexual male and the stage of homosexual identity development in which they currently are.

520 $a The effects of centuries of inculcated homophobia within the adult homosexual male will be studied by reviewing the relevant literature and seeing how societies treated same-sex behavior and the consequent reaction by the adult male homosexual. A convenience sample will be obtained from different areas (e.g., friendship networks and organizations) in northern Indiana as well as through a survey placed on the Internet asking them to complete a survey. The survey is comprised of Cass' Stage Allocation Measure, The Short Internalized Homonegativity Scale and a short section requesting demographics.
520 $a The data gathered from each section will be analyzed using multivariate analysis Pearson correlation coefficient because of the multiple variables involved. The idea is not only to see if there is a correlation between the degree of internalized homophobia and the psychosexual developmental stage in which the adult male homosexual is, but to see if there is a correlation between the degree of internalized homophobia of the respondent and any particular demographic.
