The digital age, which has transformed so many aspects of our lives, has also transformed the film industry. New innovations in film equipment and editing software have made high-quality filmmaking a possibility, not just for uber-wealthy conglomerates, but for the independent filmmaker - giving them a fighting chance. Thus, there are more independent films being released than ever before in the present-day digital marketplace, even with Hollywood still attempting to get a slice of the independent film pie. New film marketing strategies for both camps rely on social media, YouTube, and crowdfunding. But for independent films more than Hollywood films, it means shattering the wall between filmmakers and consumers by incorporating consumers into the film funding and development processes and creating an online community of supporters. In effect, the involvement of the internet in the market process is bringing people closer together.
