In the first part, a personal essay of the author's middle school life starts this thesis with a look at the Chinese education system. This ingrained system sees examinations as the core of education and final scores as the sole evaluation of learning, thus burdening students with an unbearable amount of work and neglecting any possible necessity for adolescent physical and emotional development. Consequently, such an education system becomes the primary factor that suppresses Chinese boys.

The thesis then identifies the disadvantages that Chinese boys live with compared to American boys. The majority of this thesis follows a chronological order and compares boys' experiences within two drastically different cultures from birth to college. These experiences include but are not limited to stereotypes, bullying and discrimination.

In conclusion, the thesis argues that the world has a long way to go before total equality is achieved, and Chinese international male students' living situation will not be refined in the near future. However, students themselves could take action by changing how they see the situation and what their surrounding crowds see in them. Whether it's American boy culture or Chinese virtuous traditions, one must learn to take its essence and discard the dross. It's a tricky middle point for anyone trying to balance "fitting in" in American mainstream culture while maintaining a traditional Chinese identity. Nevertheless, this thesis hopes to offer students in need some perspectives to improving their experiences studying abroad. It suggests that, though equality is the ultimate goal, the long wait and slow progress ahead requires much pressure and patient.
