The following study explores and explains the impacts of budgetary transparency initiatives in governments and how these initiatives may benefit megaprojects. To support transparency initiatives for megaprojects, social media platforms were reviewed to establish how they would support stakeholder communication. Research showed that more transparent communication practices with public stakeholders through the utilization of social media informs the public stakeholder of project progress in a more intimate and immediate setting, providing transparency. Through social media it is possible to create a brand for the project itself in the process. A solution of creating a social networking site (SNS) project management team for integrating social media into stakeholder communication is proposed and discussed in this study. The implementation of a SNS project management team in megaprojects would require project owner buy-in and support, and must follow a carefully structured methodological approach. The success of the implementation of the SNS project team can be measured through surveys, metrics and analytics, reviews, and retrospective activities.
