The purpose of the training module was to improve developmentally supportive teacher interaction with vulnerable children. The module included three components: a presentation, a coaching session and a reflection session. Research has shown that many teachers deliver more reprimands than praise, with a ratio of 3:1. Furthermore, many teachers have also been found to praise children who do not exhibit challenging behavior. It is important to educate teachers about the importance of praise, as it has been shown that children thrive when they have a positive teacher-child relationship. The training module developed for this project seeks to help improve the teacher-child relationship by using behavior specific praise that may lead to more positive teacher-child relationships. The results of the training module showed the teachers did increase their use of behavior specific praise. Teachers were happy to see improvement in the interactions with children and were always thinking about ways to praise children.
