This project explores a relatively new direction in the controversial and interesting study of domestic violence, focusing in particular on intimate partner violence (IPV). To date, much of the research on domestic violence has focused on the male perpetrators and the social/cultural/psychological factors that contribute to their actions. However, various scholars have suggested that reevaluation of the cumulative data collected over the past 50 years may demonstrate further insights into the complexity of violence. The aim of this project is to contribute to a redirection of research focus onto the various participants involved in IPV order to (re)interpret the factors that contribute to aggression and violence. This study uses police incidence data to examine the various frequencies of violence among male/male, male/ female, and female/female partnerships in Richland, Washington. Although it is assumed in general that males perpetrate more violence than females, it is expected that the analysis of these different types of partnerships will reveal that violence is more ubiquitous in nature.
