Utilizing the observational research design and a time-series comparative methodology, archival and survey data were collected and analyzed for Ghana's and Kenya's experiences with the Swiss Patent Office (SPO) in contrast to Nigeria's lack of exposure to that influence. The result reflects the impact of collaboration with the SPO on Ghana and Kenya in relation to Nigeria's lack of collaboration with the SPO, as measured by the mean seven questions on the Dynamic Capabilities section of the Intellectual Property survey. This dissertation also examines the main leadership components that influenced these changes, as measured comparatively before and after collaboration. The Absorptive Capacities are measured by the eight questions on the Absorptive Capacities section of the Intellectual Property survey.

Based on the findings, SPO collaboration with Ghana made a significant impact on their patent productivity (development), while SPO intervention with Kenya did not appear to have any significant impact. Additionally, SPO collaboration with Ghana and Kenya does not appear to have influenced their leadership. The overall impact of SPO's collaboration with the countries in this study appears to be beneficial in view of the remarkable impact on Ghana's patent productivity. Though Kenya did not respond in the same positive way, it was unclear from this research what the barrier was that dampened their response. Hopefully, more of these types of collaboration will aid with this understanding and strengthen these emerging economies.
