Elder abuse is a growing public health concern that requires urgent attention. As the U.S. population grows, so does the elder abuse problem. Nurses play a crucial role in identifying and reporting elder abuse. The aim of this project was to develop an educational curriculum on elder abuse for nursing students. The curriculum is designed to increase student nurses' knowledge and self-efficacy with reporting elderly abuse. The educational modules consist of four presentations. Each topic is designed to increase students' knowledge of elder abuse assessment (identification), intervention (treatment and referrals), and prevention (teaching the client, the family, and the community). Research findings suggest that elder abuse education for nursing students and nurses correlated with higher elder abuse reporting rate, and increases in nurses' self-efficacy in identifying, assessing, intervening, and reporting elder abuse.
