The South Asian immigrant population of the United States consists of individuals from the countries of India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Diabetes is caused by both genetic configurations and the impact of lifestyle choices. Diabetes is a group of metabolic diseases that cause the presence of high sugar in the blood, with Type 2 being the most common form of diabetes in individuals with a diabetes diagnosis. Type 2 is considered the most harmful and deadly of the two types due to the significant risk of hyperglycemia. In light ofthe cultural context of food choices, providing information in a pamphlet detailing the risks and complications of diabetes and types of food appropriate for diabetic patients and their families was addressed in this project. The pamphlets were distributed to the South Asian population of Los Angeles County through Sikh temples.
