This study examined the influence of gender and culture on the choice of conflict management styles in the workplace. This study was based on gender research presented by Deborah Tannen and assumptions of face-negotiation theory offered by Stella Ting-Toomey. A survey based on a 5-point Likert scale measured respondents' tendencies in a conflict and their degree of collectivism and individualism. Students of the University of Wyoming were targeted as participants of this study. The results of this study showed that gender did not have any significant impact on one's choice of conflict management styles. Cultural orientation, however, was found to influence the choice of an avoiding style. Additionally, the results showed that individuals from collectivistic countries reported a higher degree of collectivism than individuals from individualistic countries. It was speculated that economic and social changes, which were caused by capitalism, globalization, and multiculturalism, had changed individuals and organizations. Limitations and directions for future research were addressed.
