The cultural makeup in America has historically attracted immigrants, resulting in a continually evolving landscape with new cultures and ethnicities. Consequently, multiple cultures have collided, mixed, and coexisted, giving way to younger generations with ethnicities tracing back to more than one distinct culture. Previous research has explored and identified important developmental effects and influences for single ethnicity individuals; however, research has neglected to focus on the potential differences bicultural individuals develop and experience when compared with other more dominant cultures because they come from more than one distinct culture. In this study, literature on multiculturalism and ethnic identity development is reviewed and bicultural parents' identity integration and perceptions of transferring their culture to their children is examined.
