The increased use of technology by scientific and business communities is motivating educational institutions to prepare knowledge workers who are creative, critical thinkers. These knowledge workers require the skills to work with a multitude of new technologies. New models of future higher education systems are needed. The main research purpose of the dissertation is to construct dynamic frameworks for a population, based on knowledge work and self-development, who will participate in future higher education systems. These frameworks for future higher education systems presume the application of knowledge-based outcomes, learning organization theory, and infrastructures needed to facilitate learning in an environment of rapid change.Subjects--Topical Terms:

The purpose of developing these models is to explore the possibility paradigms brought about by thinking in terms of discontinuous change, not evolutionary change. The models attempt to re-assess the organization and process of higher education systems. Computer models and their annotated simulations are an effective tool at playing out policy structures. Building the models, first, from a qualitative perspective and, then a quantitative perspective allows one to focus and bound the creation of a new perspective on higher education. A paradigm founded on knowledge-based education, learning organization theory and technology support systems is explored through these models. The use of the ithink$\sp\circler$ system dynamics modeling program is an attempt to create and explore the interdependent processes that achieve the outcome of Knowledge Capital and Knowledge Worker creation based on value-centered resource management, faculty knowledge capital, technology infrastructures, and knowledge-based outcomes of this future system.
