Executives at most organizations are beginning to see the value of information technology (IT) governance effectiveness to the overall organizational strategy. This study sought to explore the existence of a linear relationship between effective IT governance and project portfolio control, risk management, and business/IT alignment utilizing a quantitative, non-experimental, correlation survey research. The results of the multiple regression of data from a sample of 205 participants with 201 valid responses showed a significant linear relationship between effective IT governance and 2 of the constructs, project portfolio control and risk management, therefore supporting the alternative hypotheses for Research Sub-Questions 1 and 2. However, the results of the study did not support the alternate hypothesis on research question 3 as the study found no significant linear relationship between effective IT governance and business/IT alignment. Ultimately, this dissertation study helps shed light on the relationship between effective IT governance and project portfolio control as well as provides support to the existing literature on the relationship between effective IT governance and risk management.
