Teachers instruct students in different ways. Finding the most effective way to teach students is the area of concern. Every teacher has a method, style, or primary teaching style. The style of method might change based on experience, training, and education. This action research study asked the participants to complete the 4MAT teaching style inventory to find out his or her teaching style. Teachers incorporated the 4MAT instructional strategies in their lesson during the twelve small group-reading sessions that took place over six weeks. The goal of this study was to determine whether teachers who teach lessons in line with their preferred teaching styles perceive greater student gains in reading during small group instruction. McCarthy (1990) believes teachers can improve instruction by using the 4MAT System which is designed to provide diverse strategies for a cycle of learning. The teachers believed that by applying the suggested strategies the students had greater understanding of the lesson during the intervention.
