By the end of the 20th Century, the borderless, virtual landscape of the Internet connected more than two billion people. New ideas and cultures were readily available to discover, purchasing goods and services from the comfort of one's living room became reality, and images of family members instantly shared with relatives across the globe became common. Moreover, the Information Age redefined industries, economies, and business models. Yet, while the vast majority has jumped in headfirst to embrace this technology in everyday life, the Courts have barely dipped a toe into the pool of the Digital Era. Congress has enacted few statutes directly addressing technology, as the status quo remains applying decades old statutes and legal precedence to address the problems. Exacerbating the issue is the lack of fundamental understanding of the technologies by lawmakers. This research hopes to assess the robustness of current cyberlaw statutes and determine if they are sufficient for addressing issues moving forward.
