Mother Mira Alfassa (1878--1973) was a Western adept who spent the last 53 years of her life in India as the spiritual partner of the sage Sri Aurobindo Ghose, and as the head of his ashram. This study traces her occult roots from her European and Near-Eastern heritage, back to ancient Jewish, Babylonian, and Egyptian influences, applying a Jungian lens as a part of a comparative, hermeneutic study of the nature of transformation in her visionary yoga. Through a cross-cultural comparison of the mythologies of the Sun-Door, an analysis of the alchemical Rosarium Philosophorum, and amplification of the idea of the spiritual transformation of the body, this study looks at the symbolic structure of spiritual transformation in her yoga, and at death as the central symbol of, and obstacle to, the evolutionary speciation known in Integral Yoga as the Supramental Transformation . It is argued that Jung's psychology of myth and archetype provides the perfect complement to the Mother's visions, through its honoring of the symbol as the key to unlocking the mysteries of the psyche.
