Thesis (M.H.A.)--California State University, Long Beach, 2013.
This study focused on the adoption and usage patterns of electronic medical records (EMR) in two different types of practice settings: Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO) versus solo and group practices. Specifically, if there was a higher likelihood of EMR adoption in one practice type over the other, and if EMR users, in either type of practice, leveraged all of the EMR system's capabilities. Furthermore, this study assessed if practices that did not have an EMR at the time of being surveyed intended to implement one. Secondary data analyses, using the 2007 National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey EMR Supplement survey, were conducted to test three hypotheses: (1) whether HMO practices versus solo and group practices were more likely to install an EMR; (2) whether EMR owners used all the EMR capabilities, and (3) whether physician practices that did not have an EMR would install an EMR within the next 3 years.
