This study explored differentiation of self and organizational commitment among fully employed workers, ages 25 and older, living in the United States. A quantitative survey methodology was used for this study, and 547 individuals responded. Responses from participants were collected using the Differentiation of Self Inventory-Revised (DSI-R) (Skowron & Friedlander, 1998; Skowron & Schmitt, 2003), the Three-Component Model (TCM) Organizational Commitment Survey (Meyer & Allen, 1991), and a personal data form. The study revealed several pathways showing that an individual's level of differentiation of self is significantly associated with his or her capacity for organizational commitment. The findings suggest that leaders in organizations who seek the benefits of having highly committed employees should consider differentiation of self as an avenue toward that goal.
