Thesis (Ph.D.)--Capella University, 2011.
This study reviews current and potential uses and reuses of legacy technology. Businesses and users of both distributed and centralized computing application software and hardware are concerned about access to automate processes that do automate clerical process, for the best price, best performance and do not necessarily, themselves, have an interest in whether these applications and systems are centralized or distributed in nature and construct. Essentially these users are interested in adapting these application systems to ever rapid changes in the business environment and opportunities via component reuse, consolidation of services, cost effective scalability, ease of use, and/or eventual reuse of very expensive application code that was developed. Decisions whether to discard or retain and maintain legacy code staff are of key importance. The information technology hardware needed to support these software applications is also of key importance in achieving the goals identified by users and management in these businesses.
