Thesis (M.A.)--Western Illinois University, 2012.
Considering the socio-historical progression of race and race relations in the United States, this study seeks to discover if racial attitudes have changed positively between two racial groups (Blacks and Whites) in the United States over a period of ten years, 1998-2008. As older citizens have very different experiences (i.e. segregation, Jim Crow, and other legalized discrimination), they may be more inclined to have less favorable attitudes toward race and racial relations, than their younger counterparts (Tarman and Sears 2005). Based upon the movement and trajectory of social and political movements and in the United States, the progression or regression of the attitudes towards race of the respondents, will be seen to occur in the demographic characteristics of race and age.
