Thesis (M.A.)--Sotheby's Institute of Art - New York, 2014.
This paper examines the prospect of gender equality for women working in museums and galleries. Sheryl Sandberg's Lean In and Anne-Marie Slaughter's "Why Women Still Can't Have It All" are first examined in order to understand the current issues women face in the workplace. These issues are then explored through the lens of the art world. It is discovered that, while museums follow a more corporate model that does not recognize the potential that women bring to the workforce, galleries are able to maximize their workforce's potential by fully utilizing the unique perspective that women bring to the workplace.
