Thesis (M.A.)--California State University, Dominguez Hills, 2013.
This thesis shows the intermingling of rustic folk song and Masonic music using three compositions: Mozart's The Magic Flute , Haydn's Symphony No. 103, and Haydn's The Creation. Research indicates that during the Classical period (1750-1830), there was a consciousness of and growing sentiment with particular social cultures, and that both Mozart and Haydn derived inspiration from traditional folk song as well as Masonic ritual and imagery. Iconic of their era, these three compositions connect the endearing scenes of certain homelands with the moral aspects of Freemasonry, perhaps the highest ranking social order of their time.
