Thesis (Psy.D.)--Capella University, 2014.
The purpose of this study was to investigate significant differences between civilian psychologists and military psychologists in regards to demographics, clinical expertise, personality, and leadership style. Furthermore, the relationship between personality and leadership style was examined to assess any differences that may have existed among the two types of psychologists. In total, 112 licensed clinical psychologists participated in this study. The results indicated that significant differences do exist between civilian psychologists and military psychologists in regards to clinical expertise, dimensions of personality, and traits of leadership style. However, there were no significant differences between civilian psychologists and military psychologists in terms of demographic characteristics. The results also provided evidence of a relationship between personality and leadership style and that this relationship does vary by field of psychology. In the end, this study may be beneficial to those individuals who are interested in military psychology or interested in working with the military population.
