This study examines the corollary relationship between leader member relationships and organizational commitment. Academic related literature indicates that there is a positive relationship between affective commitment and high quality leader subordinate relationships, the literature does not offer extensive study into the two theoretical frameworks offered by Graen and Uhl-Bien's Leader Member Exchange Theory and Allen and Meyer's Three Component Commitment Model.

The overarching research question in this study focused on the quality of the leader member exchange and the type of organizational commitment of each participant. There was a positive corollary relationship between affective commitment and leader member exchange. Other questions arose when evaluating the organizational commitments. Further research is needed in developing better scales and/or constructs for normative commitment as it relates to affective commitment. Organizations can use this information to further develop leadership and management strategies to strengthen employees' perception of the organization and retain productive individuals.
