Thesis (Ph.D.)--The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, 2013.
My academy training was my first real life exposure to police work. Nothing in the academy prepared me for the countless traumatic incidents I would be subjected to in the following twenty-four years in police work. If it were not for the availability of a Police Officer who was a Psychologist and the implementation of a Trauma Support Team early in my career, it would be difficult to imagine where I would be today. Today, there are more law enforcement agencies that deploy Trauma Support Teams, however they are still in the minority and most do not have clinicians with law enforcement backgrounds on those teams. There few psychologists with law enforcement backgrounds who practice psychology and cater to law enforcement officers who are suffering from ASD or PTSD. My goal of this dissertation is to demonstrate the importance of this described relationship while utilizing a specific treatment model to convey the benefit.
