Thesis (M.A.)--Prescott College, 2013.
My thesis is a review of case study examples of partnerships between corporations and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) that were developed for sustainability end goals to determine the necessary initial conditions or drivers for the creation of those partnerships. Many forward-thinking corporations and NGOs have come to realize that no one sector has the resources or capabilities to address and/or resolve the major issues facing our planet. By working together, cross-sector partnerships have the potential to achieve more significant results than either entity could achieve alone while also realizing mutual benefits. I reviewed eight partnerships between large, US-based corporations and NGOs using a combination of secondary resources. These resources revealed that successful corporate-NGO partnerships require partners to share common characteristics that include a culture of innovative thinking, courage, and determination. I also discuss the importance of organizational leadership and shared worldviews in the development of corporate-NGO cross-sector partnerships for sustainability.
