Thesis (M.S.)--Utica College, 2014.
Combating fraud becomes easy when the public is fully educated on the types of fraud and prevention methods available to them. People are reliant on the Internet, and the possibility of being hacked or breached by hackers grows, especially when socializing, shopping, and banking are done through personal computers. There is a growing trend to incorporate behavioral science into finding a solution against phishing attacks. Many phishing scams are targeting individuals, where the users are prone to open links that may look like they are coming from their financial institution or an organization that they use on a regular basis. Most individuals lack security concerns and ability to identify threats on the Internet. The lack of awareness among the public is due to absence of training and education on cybersecurity. The aim of the paper is to investigate how retraining human behavior, by using game design theory, to look out for phishing attacks can help in protecting computer users online.
