Nursing homes are increasingly becoming the place where patients go for end-of-life (EOL) care. Research suggested EOL care in the nursing home setting is often substandard due to lack of EOL care training for nursing home staff. The inadequacies identified were poor symptom management and lack of communication. EOL care training was identified as the solution to improving EOL care. A pre- and post-training questionnaire, using a Likert scale, requesting information to assess knowledge, confidence in performing EOL care, and overall whether the training helped in improving knowledge and confidence was distributed to all staff. Forty-nine (45%) of the 107 nursing home staff participated. Thirty-seven (75%) were part of the nursing staff. Eighty-five percent stated that overall the training improved their knowledge and confidence in providing quality EOL care. At the conclusion of the project, the EOL training program was identified as the solution to improving EOL care in the nursing home setting.
