Thesis (Ph.D.)--Alliant International University, 2014.
The purpose of this study is to explore psychological well-being (PWB) among Korean American young adults between the ages of 18 to 35 as it relates to their immigrant adjustment and identity development. For the 160 Korean American participants in this study, the following constructs were negatively and positively associated with PWB, respectively: (a) acculturation stress and discrimination, and (b) ethnic identity and bicultural self-efficacy. In addition, ethnic identity, bicultural self-efficacy, and acculturative stress, taken together, significantly predicted PWB. Though there are limits to generalizability, recommendations are made to counselors for exploring ethnic identity, bicultural self-efficacy, and acculturative stress with their clients, and to researchers to further explore bicultural self-efficacy as a potentially influential factor in young Korean American PWB.
