Fra�nois Dupuy explores how companies are managing the crisis and what the future might hold for them. He considers issues such as managerial sloth and its consequences, and explores the need for rebuilding trust. Using 18 new cases studies and over 800 interviews, Business for the 21st Century demonstrates that in the past companies did not manage their labour or customers as long as they did not need to. Now in the face of tougher competition, companies are trying to recover control using more processes and reporting systems. However, the result has been exactly the opposite of that desired: the more they attempt to control, the more they lose control. The author sets out to draw companies' attention to the fact that there is a real need to do things differently and move towards more trust and simplicity.
