The book is an ideological history of the Liberal Party and the Liberal Democrats, examining Liberal ideas as they have been embodied both in the writings of Liberal politicians and thinkers and in the policies and strategies of the Liberal Party and the Liberal Democrats. The author also draws upon his interviews with some of the leading protagonists in the debates under scrutiny.
