Since the Industrial Revolution, the manufacturing industry has followed Frederic W. Taylor's Scientific Management theory. The results have been profound. Productivity has gone up dramatically. Later on, the manufacturing industry applied McGregor's and other scientists' management theories. However, the impact of these approaches had no effect on reducing product defects. Even Maslow's hierarchy of needs did not do much to motivate workers or management to assure product quality. Today, no matter what theory management applies to the factory floor and how well they want to satisfy the employee's hierarchy needs, one key factor is missing---the biological traits of human beings. The Pullman Strike and Ford Incidents have demonstrated this theory. The genetic make-up of each individual has good and evil factors (genes). At a particular period of time, under certain circumstances and combined with the influence of intrinsic forces (emotion, affection and selfishness), the evil factor will dominate because of individuals' self interests.Subjects--Topical Terms:
