The systematics of the New World genus Amorbia Clemens, 1860, is revised. The genus ranges from Brazil through Central America, Mexico, southeast and southwest United States and eastern Canada. The greatest species richness is found in middle elevations of Central and South America. Twenty nine species are treated, 13 described as new: A. monteverde (Puntarenas, Costa Rica), A. arenalensis (Guanacaste, Costa Rica), A. cordobensis (Veracruz, Mexico) A. cocori (Puntarenas, Costa Rica), A. cacao (Guanacaste, Costa Rica), A. trinidad (Trinidad), A. dominica (Dominica), A. texana (Texas, USA), A. potosiana (Nuevo Leon, Mexico), A. chiapensis (Chiapas, Mexico), A. santamaria (Quetzaltenango, Guatemala), A. curitiba (Parana, Brazil), A. tamaulipensis (Tamaulipas, Mexico). After phylogenetic analysis, four species previously included in Amorbia are excluded, assigned as incertae sedis (" Amorbia" depicta Walsingham, " Amorbia" elaeopetra Meyrick, " Amorbia" leptophracta (Meyrick) and " Amorbia" rectilineana (Zeller). One species, Amorbia revolutana (Zeller), is raised from synonymy and three new synonyms are assigned (A. synneurana Barnes & Busck = A. cuneana (Walsingham); A. aequiflexa (Meyrick) = A. productana (Walker) and A. spylocriptis Meyrick = A. revolutana (Zeller)). Five well defined species groups are identified: Decerptana group (6 species); Rectangularis group (3 species); Humerosana group (2 species); Colubrana group (12 species) and Chiapensis group (2 species). Four species within the genus were identified as species of uncertain affinity with the species groups mentioned above.Subjects--Topical Terms:

A redescription of the genus is provided; all the species treated are illustrated (including male and female genitalia where known). Data on localities listed and maps showing distribution of species are presented. Data on biology is provided for nine species where inmatures stages are known, host plants for the species listed. Additionally a key to the species is provided based on male features.
