The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the concurrent validity of the Eating Behaviors and Body Image Test (EBBIT) For Preadolescent Girls by examining the association between EBBIT scores and the amount of food eaten during test meals, scores on a self-esteem scale, scores on body image silhouettes, demographic characteristics, and height and weight. Sixty female participants between the ages of 9 and 14 were randomly selected from two school systems. These girls were selected from a larger sample participating in another investigation. Regression analyses were used to evaluate the relations between age, race, race x Body Mass Index (BMI) interaction, socioeconomic status, test meal, self-esteem, Body Image Silhouette (BIS) scores, height and weight measurements, and EBBIT scores. Two separate regression analyses were performed to determine the variables that predicted scores on the Body Image Dissatisfaction/Restrictive Eating (BIDRE) Factor of the EBBIT and the variables predicting scores on the Binge Eating Behaviors (BEB) Factor of the EBBIT. Regression analyses were also performed to determine which variables predicted scores on the test meal data. BIS Body Image Dissatisfaction scores predicted a large amount of variance of the BIDRE Factor of the EBBIT, with self-esteem significantly predicting a smaller amount. Self-esteem, BIS Body Image Dissatisfaction, and socioeconomic status predicted a significant amount of variance of the BEB Factor of the EBBIT. The interaction term, race x BMI, predicted a significant portion of variance on test meals.
