Thesis (M.A.)--University of Southern California, 2003.
Current global events and politics, especially those pertaining to Islam and Muslims, highlight the necessity of increasing awareness and understanding of this previously misunderstood and mischaracterized religion. Since the press is considered by organizations such as the Freedom Forum to be the best vehicle for furthering religious understanding and tolerance in our society, this work analyzes how the stylebooks of three news services, the Associated Press, Los Angeles Times and New York Times—which are often the first source reporters and other media professionals turn to for answers—cover the second largest monotheistic religion and its 1.2 billion adherents worldwide.Subjects--Topical Terms:
