Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Idaho, 1998.
The purpose of this study was to describe the effect of manager temperament on unit profitability for quick service chain restaurants in Idaho. A research design using survey methodology was used to address two research questions. A questionnaire incorporating the Keirsey Temperament Sorter was used to determine the temperament type of each unit manager, unit profitability, and demographic data. Of the 195 managers responding, only 69 included an answer to the question on unit net profit/loss. Among those, there was some question as to the accuracy of the reported data. Results indicated that of the variables chosen for this study only gender was significant in relation to unit profitability. Women managers reported profits 5.79% above the overall mean (Multiple Classification Analysis). Of the three most frequently occurring temperament types, almost 69% of the managers in the high profit range were ESTJ (extraverted, sensing, thinking, judging). Although there appeared to be a difference, it was not significant (Chi-square).
