This thesis presents lesson plans for twenty-seven selected Thai songs that have been adapted for American elementary schools. It also provides a comparison between aspects of music education in Thailand (primary Bangkok) and the State of California in the United States of America: general educational structures, music curriculum for elementary levels, the preparation of music teachers, music classroom environments, and materials used.Subjects--Topical Terms:

520 $a The second part of this thesis contains information about Thailand's geography, music, and language, followed by lesson plans for selected Thai songs. Lesson plans have been adapted to American teaching styles based on Orff and Kodály strategies. The plans include translations, transcriptions, pronunciation guides, and historical background information for each song. The Thai songs used in this study are documented in an audio recording, and have been transcribed in Western musical notation.
