This dissertation examines the relationship between mass evangelism and church planting in completing the task of the Great Commission. Chapter 1 introduces the thesis with a brief examination of both mass evangelism and church planting. Chapter 3 evaluates church planting. After establishing the biblical and historical foundations of church planting, the chapter discusses the church planting principles and methodologies that lend themselves to a link with mass evangelism. In conclusion, the current context of church planting in the early twenty-first century is discussed.

Chapter 4 shows the impact of mass evangelism on church planting. A case study of the missionary work in the Philippines from the 1960s through the 1980s indicates a link between mass evangelism and church planting. In this particular context, mass evangelism became an effective and vital part of the church planting strategy.

Chapter 5 proposes an integrated strategy of mass evangelism and church planting based on the previous case study. Obviously, mass evangelism is most effective when adequate preparation and follow-up are carried out. An intentional discipling process on the front end that leads up to the mass evangelistic event can provide an ideal setting in which to assimilate new believers.

This work contends that the link between mass evangelism and church planting can be an effective methodology in completing the task of the Great Commission. By identifying the missiological context, adjustments can be made to the proposed strategy that will lend itself to effective evangelism, which results in committed church members.
