This paper is the product of the efforts of a number of people. I am indebted to Dr. Rosalyn Rufer whose guidance and support allowed me to take a complex subject and pare it down to one that was concise and actually made sense. During the entire process her mentoring provided insight of invaluable measure. I am indebted to Dr. Anne Cobb whose meticulous efforts made it possible for this paper to be readable and logical. Dr. Joseph Angiello, my advisor of six years, has provided me with the direction necessary to complete my degree on schedule. His wit and wry sense of humor has kept me focused all throughout. I am grateful to Dr. Jaime Perry, whose prodding allowed me to realize my potential and whose editorial comments kept me focused.
