Thesis (M.A.)--Ursuline College, 2003.
The hypothesis of this research proposes that the addition of art processes to an engagement group of dually diagnosed individuals with a severe mental disorder and substance abuse increases participation in activities that promote lifestyle change issues. Using the Ohio Department of Mental Health (ODMH) standards, the integrated treatment model, assertive outreach, motivational interviewing (MI), and psycho-educational programming was used. A connection between art and life was emphasized using a variety of media to increase awareness of the role of the artist in society, identifying both the unique vision and the problem of place within a social structure. Seven adults participated in weekly group sessions over a period of eight months. The individual case study and qualitative reporting, plus a quantitative statement of attendance demonstrate the outcome of the research.Subjects--Topical Terms:
